28 new skincare and make-up products, out of a total of over 100 applications, were nominated for this year’s MakeUp in NewYork Innovation & Trends (IT) Awards. The 12 jury members met in July to test and assess the short-listed products and select to the most innovative and trend-setting solutions across four categories: accessories, formulations, full service and packaging products.
Best accessory IT Award
The IT Award in the “Accessories” category was scooped by Italian manufacturer Pennelli Faro for their pocket-sized make-up brush Segno. Designed to be wearable on the wrist, like a bracelet, the precision brush is mounted on a flexible lace that is available in various materials.
In the same category, the Coup de Coeur du Jury (jury’s favorite) award went to China’s Beauty Yaurient Cosmetics Accessories for Iron Series, a line of massage tools with natural jade stones. The three sizes are suitable for the face, back, shoulders and neck.
ACT Beauty with their line of Bio-Based Blenders, and HNB Corporation for their black and white Zen Makeup Brush Collection were among the finalists.
Formulation IT Award
French manufacturer MS BeautiLab won the IT Award in the formulation category for Roll & Remove Beauty Spheres, a range of translucent makeup removing spheres, formulated with over 93% ingredients from natural origin, without PEGs, silicone or preservatives. “At skin temperature, the spheres will transform into a soft, fluid oil that will effectively remove all traces of makeup and impurities,” the company explains.
Full Service IT Award
Ancorotti Cosmetics won over the jury in the “full sevice product” category, with Multilayer a compact offering a hypnotic decoration combining color, patterns and varying relief effects. Based on pure pigments, its multi-layer pressable formula contains moisturizing, emollient and anti-redness agents.
Packaging IT Award
Eventually, South Korea’s Taeyang Renew scooped the award in the packaging category with their Airtight Slider Mascara: a tube contains a sealed formula and a retractable applicator.
The Ambassador’s Favorite
In addition to the winners of the IT Awards, Ewelina Aiossa, ambassador of MakeUp in NewYork 2023 and member of the IT Award jury, has awarded "The Ambassador’s Favorite" prize to her favorite product, selected and tested from among the 10 new skincare products entered in the competition.
The prize went to Coreana Bio for its Lavida Vital Recovery BB Cream Pact IRF35, a hybrid antiaging formulation combining UV filters, oils, moisturizers and various active ingredients.
The “MakeUp in” show will return to the West Coast on February 14-15, 2024 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, then again in New York on September 18-19, 2024, again at the Javits Center.
